SPAYING FOR CHANGE is the result of a dream and seeing how effective many hands can be without ego getting involved.

Most people out there see streetdogs and have a moment of sadness. They do not understand the millions of dogs dying, diseased, in pain, dumped and living in deplorable conditions. It takes a truly exceptional person to move past the sadness and actually see the big picture and when those people actually do something about the problem, well, they become my heroes.

Chiquita’s Friends and Casa Sheila organized the first Spaying for Change last November and decided to keep the first one small. We had 10 teams up and down the Baja and did 1472 spays and neuters in two days. We were blown away by the people understanding the concept, wanting to be a part of something bigger than themselves and doing this because of the great love for the animals.

This year, we want to go bigger! We will be including anyone who wants to participate this year within simple parameters . We are asking people to do their clinics on November 9th and 10th. We are not telling you how to do your clinics or how many you can do, we just want the World to see what we are dealing with. The numbers don’t lie.

Work together, make teams, do whatever it takes. We will of course offer advice and be here for any questions. We are also going to do a wide donation plea where those who cannot do a clinic can help. Please please, we are changing the world for these animals. We depend on everyone to put pleas out for donations as well. We will have signage, we are working on a song and we will have advertising for you all to share. This is our opportunity to gather together, help each other out and truly make a difference for the animals and our world, who is in? So honored to be a part of the animal welfare movement in Los Cabos. PET Los Cabos Aida Trujillo and Evaristo Castro Rosas have an amazing rescue just outside Cabo San Lucas called Second Chance Ranch. They are the power couple of rescue AND spay and neuter campaigns in this area. If you want to volunteer to walk dogs, bring donations of collars leashes, or donate money they can use all the help you can give. They have horses, burros, dogs, cats there. Please come and visit our new kennels and playground for these amazing dogs.

The artwork alone is astounding. Artist took photos of some of my dogs and made a couple murals.

CLEO will be at Nectar of the Dogs wine tasting room today and tomorrow.

Cleo (Cleopatra eyes) has the most beautiful eyes of any dog. She is one of the dump moms, born on the streets of Mexico, dumped at the landfill in Mos Cabos , gave birth and kept babies safe from feral dogs and starvation and was rescued by Chiquita's Friends and Casa Sheila .

Her pups all found homes but she hasn’t yet. She is now in the Agoura Hills waiting for her forever family.

This girl is incredibly smart, a fast thinker, beyond sweet despite a rough life! She was treated for TVT a sexually transmitted disease and is now fully healthy. Truly special dogs are hard to find, she is one of them. Let this Queen rule your house and let her give you all her love and loyalty. Geraldine Gilliland

WE NEED YOUR HELP! Meade Canine Rescue and Chiquita’s Friends are bringing spay and neuter to Bakersfield and Porterville, California, after years of helping animals in Mexico.

Thanks to the amazing and committed Diane Bentz, DVM, from Simi Valley Non-Profit Spay and Neuter Clinic, we are bringing the work that makes a difference home to local communities in dire need.

On March 14 we will spay and neuter 100 dogs in Bakersfield and 50 dogs in Porterville. It’s a drop in the bucket but it’s a start and won’t be our only clinic.

If you understand the issues of overpopulation resulting in the huge numbers of healthy animals killed, you also understand exponentially how many lives are saved through spay and neuter.

A donation of $65 covers one canine and will be greatly appreciated
